For SS15 British brand Red or Dead have teamed up with NEWGEN designer Ashley Williams for a two season partnership entitled ‘Ashley Willams x RED OR DEAD: #MakingMovies.
Red or Dead were welcomed back to the catwalk after 10 years away, unveiling this iconic collaboration at Ashley Williams’ fashion show on 14th September.
Red or Dead’s quirky, retro aesthetic combined perfectly with Ashley Williams’ graphic, humorous and irreverent aesthetic to create a capsule footwear collection worth gawping at.
Models strutted down the catwalk in statement prints and quirky separates whilst the likes of Alexa Chung and Pixie Geldof watched from the front row.
Ashley Williams x RED OR DEAD: #MakingMovies is a collection for girls living their lives through movies. Exploring the Red or Dead design archive was the starting point for Ashley’s invention of the line, and each style is named in tribute to the illustrated print in her SS15 range: a collective of drawings and fake film titles. Where ‘DUSK’, the pointed black leather sling-back stiletto with white polka dot motif, and ‘FIFTEEN’ (‘DUSK’ inverted) are inspired by the simple monochrome arrow print of the infamous 1994 Red or Dead ‘Prisoner’ collection, ‘PLAZA’, the transparent vinyl court shoe with contrasting black polka dot, heel and toe is inspired by the label’s 1990 ‘Space Baby’ design phenomenon, a brand-defining vinyl print which appeared in its first catwalk show and later on bags, clothing and boots. ‘ZUBURBZ’, the sling-back white kitten heel with black suede tie takes direct reference from the girlish shoe styles of the1960s, the era of context for the Ashley Williams SS15 collection.
