LABRUM London presents ‘Designed by an Immigrant: Journey of Colours’ for AW24

LABRUM London presents ‘Designed by an Immigrant: Journey of Colours’ for AW24.

Coinciding with the brand’s 10-year anniversary, LABRUM’s AW24 collection celebrates the vibrant and diverse cultures brought by the immigrants who traverse the globe, that have influenced the fabric of society today.

Under the visionary guidance of Creative Director and Sierra Leone native Foday Dumbuya, 450+ fashion insiders and creatives gathered at the Tate Britain to pay homage to the inspiring stories of immigrant artists who overcame adversity and made significant contributions to the art and fashion world.

Drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of immigrant experiences and the diverse influences that shape the LABRUM world, Dumuya’s AW24 collection commemorates the harmonious fusion of different cultures by intertwining rich heritage storytelling with avant-garde flair.

From digital embroidery to patchwork, quilting, woven textiles, and screen-printing, each design element in the collection showcases the global nature of craftsmanship to which we owe our dues. Silhouettes can be described as a “Cultural Confluence,” embracing a myriad of cuts, shapes, and styles that reflect the cross-pollination of cultural identities we encounter today.

Accessories in the collection pay homage to the courageous journeys undertaken by immigrants, the exaggerated shapes and prints honour the spirit of travel and resilience. The contemporary reinterpretation of luggage and goods felt familiar, yet regal – memorialising immigrant journeys.

A worldly casting echoed the collection Journey of Colours, with Ghanaian musician Black Sheriff, the UK’s Ella Eyre, Saracens’ Maro Itoje, English-Jamaican Goya Gumbani and Hackney’s Hope Ikpoku taking to the runway.

Spoken-word poetry and a spine-tingling soundtrack created by close collaborator JulianKnxx filled the hall, with UK & Global greats such as Akala, Zeze Mills, Tiwa Savage, Munya Chuwaya, Kamille, NSG, Jordan Stephens and Sope Dirisu watching on from the front row.

Amongst them were the biggest names in fashion publishing, including British Vogue, ELLE, TANK, WWD, with post-show reviews stating nothing short of excellence.

The Fashion PR team were deeply proud to have been part of another trailblazing season, supporting LABRUM to cultivate this moment, from guestlist management and VIP dressing to designer preview, interviews and post-show media roll-out.
