Let’s talk about Copenhagen Fashion Week SS25

Written by Aimee Gray, Fashion Communications Manager at b. the agency

The first week of August, when Copenhagen Fashion Week rolls around. Industry leaders flock to the Scandinavian city from afar to gain insight into which direction fashion will take for the upcoming season.

SS25 runways were full of action; leaning into Danish mentality, brands continued to showcase collections that merge fashion with everyday lifestyle in its entirety – i.e. wearing a Cecilie Bahnsen dress with your favourite sneakers to do menial life tasks, like the food shop.

Copenhagen is loved by so many key leaders in the industry – especially during the summer – thanks to the laid-back attitude and ever-so-chic style of the locals. With this in mind, consumers buy into Scandinavian fashion to adopt an essence of Scandinavian lifestyle. Minimalistic style, timeless draping, heaps of denim, countless lightweight knits…these are the styles Designers on the CPHFW schedule are presenting to the world – ultimately, elevated everyday looks.

A leading trend as seen at CPHFW is ‘Top Drawer Style’. Looking as if you’ve pulled a jumper/polo/rugby shirt out of your top drawer and thrown it on effortlessly, regardless of how over-sized, washed, and faded it is. Baum und Pferdgarten, Stem, and OpéraSPORT all jumped on the stripey, oversized knit trend for SS25. A continuation of a coalescence between sport and fashion, an industry shift in mentality, looking for clothes that offer ultimate style yet comfort and movement.

Moving into AW24 and then SS25, we’ll begin to see the trends presented to us at CPHFW unveil themselves; trench coats, sheer materials, lace, the capri pant, the kitten heel, the flip flop and so on. Three is a trend, but at CPHFW you often notice that the fashions parading down the runway are already visible amongst the audience.

Aside from fashion and accessories, Copenhagen is about community – it’s at the very heart of CPHFW. The same people year on year attend CPHFW, yet it’s still a space to welcome newness. From Designers, to talent, to Editors and so forth, Copenhagen Fashion Week welcomes freshness.

Big on doing things differently, this SS25 saw so many established Copenhagen based brands from GANNI, to Cecilie Bahnsen, Saks Potts and more, take the decision to not show at CPHFW, but instead host a dinner and/or event to get their community together. Saks Potts, who celebrated their tenth year this season, welcomed guests to a ‘Wedding Dinner’, whereby the Founders Barbara Potts and Catherine Saks cut a wedding cake together, welcoming in the next decade of the brand.

Another brand Birthday was that of vintage brand Reseller, who hosted an event in partnership with their friends at AKVA Jewellery to celebrate their fifth year on the ground. Community first – a running theme in Denmark – the two brands crafted a Brooch and Tie Pin, fusing fashion with jewellery, and in doing so, created wearable art. With family and friends new and old in attendance, guests celebrated five years of expressive design and togetherness. Guestlist procurement by us.

With CPHFW, it’s never a question of what’s next. The repetition, which is seen season to season, is expected, but it doesn’t age. Locals to the city live and breathe the lifestyle, the fashion in which local Designers are creating and flaunting themselves.

Functionality, community, timeless style, elegant yet playful – these things are true to Copenhagen Fashion Week, time and time again.
