Fashion Week isn’t just about new trends in fashion and style. When a model walks down that runway, her hair, makeup and nails will inspire beauty trends for the upcoming months as well.
This year’s Fashion Weeks saw an array of fashion-forward designers setting nail trends for the new season. Nude nails were a bit hit on various runways including Derek Lam, Monique L’huillier and Tommy Hilfiger, keeping nails clean and polished so as not to detract from the clothes. Brighter colours appeared too such as reds, corals and blues on the Carolina Herrara, Zac Posen and Burberry catwalks respectively.
But some designers took it to the next level with their nail creations.
Glitters, pearls, jewels, geometric shapes, chains and coloured block letters are just some of the crazy creations seen in all four Fashion Weeks around the world. House of Holland featured red to pink ombré with a splash of silver glitter on the tips of each nail. Ashish featured silver glitter nails with large multi-coloured gems that matched the gems on the models’ eyes. Libertine featured oversized colourful lego-like letters on each nail, spelling out the word L-I-B-E-R-T-I-N-E. But the most daring nail design of them all was seen on the Mariana Jungmann catwalk. Each metal-inspired nail was painted in a deep silver hue and adorned with silver pearls and jewels. Finally, the nails were pierced – yes, pierced! – with adjoining chains for a tough but chic look. Nail technician Naomi Gonsalez used Ciaté “Fit For a Queen” to create the look that perfectly complemented the muted hues and jewelled head-pieces of Jungmann’s collection.
