The lovechild of London Fashion Week and graduation made its return this week – it was none other than Graduate Fashion Week! Leading Stella McCartney, Christopher Bailey, and Matthew Williamson to stardom, Graduate Fashion Week promised to showcase the hottest rising talents, and it certainly did not disappoint!
Having recently celebrated 25 years, Graduate Fashion Week is a crucial part of the fashion world, fuelling innovation in an array of areas in the fashion world. Graduate Fashion Week showcases over 1,000 student’s work from the most influential and inspiring universities around the world and powerfully represents the future of creative design talent.
This year, 25 students were shortlisted to showcase their work at ‘The Best of Graduate Fashion Week’. One thing that we found particularly spectacular this year was the incorporation of unusual objects into fashion, ranging from rice packets to airplane seatbelts!
A well-deserved congratulations to the winner of the renowned Christopher Bailey Gold Award, Halina North, from Edinburgh College of Art. Her collection featured a series of sculptural, proportion twisting dresses made from recycled paper and plastics – and we love it.
Finally (& most excitingly!!), SmartFocus launched a brand new prize this year, the People’s Choice Award, that rewards the event’s best designer as chosen by the Graduate Fashion Week audience, as if we didn’t have another excuse not to miss out!
