Manhattan came to a halt Tuesday night as James Bond star Daniel Craig took the new Range Rover Sport for a spin through the streets of New York.

The British actor delivered the luxury vehicle to a star-studded premiere at Skylight on 8th Avenue for the New York Motor Show, in a scene reminiscent of one of his Hollywood blockbusters where the vehicle was officially unveiled for the first time.

The drive was filmed as part of a short film, The Delivery, by acclaimed director Jonathon P.B.Taylor, broadcast live from the launch event. It was also the first time the British car manufacturer has staged a global reveal live on the street of its biggest market.

The new Range Rover Sport is the slightly smaller, lower-slung and sportier version of its ‘big brother’ Range Rover, and a big hit with celebrities and Craig himself.

Speaking ahead of the official world premiere at the New York International Auto Show, Land Rover Global Brand Director John Edwards said, “The All-New Range Rover Sport is an extraordinary car and we have revealed it in an extraordinary way – live on the streets of its biggest selling market. It turned heads and it stopped traffic in one of the most dynamic cities in the world.”

Upon arrival, Craig joined supermodel Yasmin Le Bon, Olympian Zara Phillips and designer Jade Jagger at the launch party.

Design Director of Land Rover and Range Rover, Gerry McGovern said: “Our vehicles are not necessarily driven by country gentlemen anymore, they’re driven by urbanites. New York is a very important market for us – we sell more Range Rover Sports in New York than we do anywhere else. I also think New York itself suits the character of the car – New York’s gritty, edgy, dramatic, dynamic – that suits the car.”

The new Range Rover Sport will go on sale in Summer 2013. Prices are yet to be announced.
